Time Management in the TELC B1 Exam
Why Time Management Matters
The written TELC B1 exam lasts approximately 150 minutes in total. During this time, you need to complete Reading Comprehension, Language Elements, Listening Comprehension, and Written Expression. Without a clear strategy, time can run out quickly.
Time Allocation Overview
| Exam Section | Recommended Time |
|---|---|
| Reading Comprehension (Parts 1–3) | approx. 60 minutes |
| Language Elements (Parts 1–2) | approx. 30 minutes |
| Listening Comprehension (Parts 1–3) | approx. 30 minutes |
| Written Expression | approx. 30 minutes |
Tips for Effective Time Management
1. Read the Instructions First
Before reading the text, look at the questions. This way you know what to pay attention to and can read more purposefully.
2. Don't Get Stuck on Difficult Questions
If a question seems too hard, mark it and move on. Come back to it at the end if there's still time.
3. Plan Your Written Expression
Take 5 minutes to plan your answer before you start writing. Jot down key points for the four required bullet points.
4. Keep an Eye on the Clock
Mobile phones and smartwatches are not allowed during the exam. However, the testing room has a wall clock that you can use to track your time. Check it regularly to make sure you're still on schedule.
5. Practice Under Exam Conditions
Take practice exams with time limits. This helps you develop a feel for the available time.
